Porridge is an absolute classic British breakfast, which you can make with either milk or water. There are loads of things besides milk and sugar you can add to porridge before serving to make it extra tasty, but here’s the basic method for making porridge to get you started.

- • 200g rolled oats
- • 750ml milk, soya milk or water
- • sea salt
To make your basic porridge
• Place the oats and the milk or water in a pan with a small pinch of sea salt and put it on a medium heat
• Bring to a steady simmer for 5 to 6 minutes, stirring as often as you can to give you a smooth creamy porridge
